Cloudflare provides the best global performance. Its network reaches 95% of the world’s population within 50 ms. Cloudflare also includes 300+ locations. Workers run on a V8 isolate model rather than containers. This architecture allows scripts to load in milliseconds. Cloudflare Workers avoid the container orchestration overhead.

Vercel and Netlify build their serverless offerings on public cloud infrastructure like AWS Lambda. This approach introduces a cold start penalty when the provider provisions a container. Vercel uses "Always On" functions for Pro and Enterprise tiers to mitigate this. Netlify uses pre-warming strategies to reduce latency.

You know edge matters.

Cloudflare Workers demonstrate superior global latency. The density of the 300+ edge locations provides an inherent advantage. Workers execute directly at the network edge. Vercel and Netlify often require a round trip to a regional cloud provider data center. This distance adds milliseconds to response times. Cloudflare Workers use a V8 isolate model to load scripts in milliseconds, which avoids the container orchestration overhead that causes measurable cold start penalties in Vercel and Netlify functions.

Framework support and developer experience

Netlify provides the best developer experience for JAMstack. It includes built-in forms and identity services. It also provides split testing and deployment previews. Every pull request gets a unique preview URL. Netlify supports Astro, Gatsby, Hugo, and Eleventy. Netlify provides Netlify Blobs for key-value and blob storage. Netlify Functions are AWS Lambda-backed and have a 10s execution limit for synchronous functions.

Vercel provides the best Next.js experience. It provides native support for Next.js features like ISR and Server Components. The platform detects the framework automatically. Vercel includes an AI Gateway with access to 20+ providers like OpenAI and Anthropic. Vercel also provides Speed Insights for monitoring Core Web Vitals. Vercel’s Secrets Controller scans code and build output for exposed secrets. Vercel includes DDoS mitigation at L3/L4/L7.

Netlify’s Next.js SSR support is less optimized than Vercel’s native implementation.
