How To Change Your C User Name In Windows 10

If you’re using Windows 10, you can change your C User Name in a few different ways. Here’s how to do it.

Method 1: Change Your C User Name In Control Panel

  1. Open the Settings app. You can do this by searching for “Settings” and then click the Settings icon that appears on the left side of the window. Alternatively, you can press Windows+I to open the Settings app directly.
  2. Click System > Notifications & actions > Change account name or picture. This will take you to the Change Account Type screen where you can change your username or picture (if applicable).

Method 2: Change Your C User Name In A Command Prompt

  • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog. Type “cmd” then press Enter.
  • In the command prompt, type “net user” and then press Enter. This will open a list of all your user accounts on your computer with their associated usernames and passwords. To change your username, select the account you would like to change and click Rename, or type in a new username and press Enter. To change your password, select the account you would like to change and click Rename, or type in a new password and press Enter again.
  • If you are changing your username, type “net user” and then replace “USERNAME” with your new C User Name (e.g., “username”). If you are changing your password, type “net user” and then replace “USERNAME” with your new C User Name (e.g., “username”) followed by “password” (e.g., “username password”). Then choose OK when prompted to confirm that you want to proceed with the action; this will save both the username and password.
  • You’ll be prompted to enter your username and password again. Type your new C User Name (e.g., “username”) then press Enter to authenticate with the new username and password.

Method 3: Change Your C User Name in a Command Prompt Using Windows Powershell

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog, type “Powershell” then press Enter. If you are using a version of Windows 10 prior to version 1803, you will need to open PowerShell using the Search charm or through the Start menu search box (type “Powershell” and press Enter).
  2. At the “PowerShell: Open” prompt, type “net user” and then press Enter. This will open a list of all your user accounts on your computer with their associated usernames and passwords in plain text that can be copied into a text file for later use or pasted directly into a command prompt window for immediate use. To change your username, select the account you would like to change and click Rename or type in a new username and press Enter again – this will save both the username and password.
  3. If you are changing your username, type “net user” and then replace “USERNAME” with your new C User Name (e.g., “username”). If you are changing your password, type “net user” and then replace “USERNAME” with your new C User Name (e.g., “username”) followed by “password” (e.g., “username password”). Then choose OK when prompted to confirm that you want to proceed with the action; this will save both the username and password.
  4. You will be prompted to enter your username and password again – type in your new C User Name (e.g., “username”) then press Enter to authenticate with the new username and password.

What Is A C User Name?

A C User Name is the name that is associated with your user account. The term “user account” simply refers to the account you use to log in to your computer. Each computer account has its own username, which is what you use to log in to your computer. Most computers have a user account named “Administrator,” which is the account that came with the computer.

Reasons To Change Your C User Name

  •  If you have a lot of different user accounts, it’s best to have just one user name that can be used for all accounts. This way, when an account is compromised or hacked, it’s not as easy to pick out which account was hacked.
  •  It’s easier to remember your username than your password.
  •  With a single user name, you can use the same username with more than one type of account (e.g., work and personal).
  •  If you’re using a single user name across multiple accounts there will be less confusion about which account is being used if you’re using the same username on every account (although this is still recommended — see below).
  •  When you change your C User Name in Windows 10, you’ll get a new one-time password sent to you by email that will allow access to any Microsoft Accounts associated with that C User Name, including Outlook and OneDrive. If this doesn’t work for whatever reason, just enter the old C User Name again when prompted and Windows 10 will ask for your new password again.
  •  If you have a lot of different accounts and you’re using the same username on them, then it’s possible that someone might be able to guess your password and access your other accounts. A single username makes it harder for someone else to guess your password.
  •  Changing your C User Name in Windows 10 is a good idea if you’re using the same username on more than one type of account (e.g., work, personal). This helps prevent confusion about which account is being used and makes it easier to remember which username is associated with which account.
  •  If you’re using the same user name across multiple accounts there will be less confusion about which account is being used if you’re using the same username on every account (although this is still recommended — see below).
  •  Changing your C User Name in Windows 10 won’t break any of your other user names, such as email addresses or usernames that aren’t Microsoft Accounts (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo). It won’t change your Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or other Microsoft accounts. It won’t change your Bing, Office 365, Windows Live, or other Microsoft accounts. It won’t change your OneDrive for Business or OneDrive for Business files (which is why this is a good idea if you’re using the same user name on multiple types of accounts).
  •  Changing your C User Name in Windows 10 does not require any advanced knowledge of how to hack computers (e.g., “brute force” password cracking). Changing the C User Name in Windows 10 is easy and can be done by anyone who has access to the computer and knows how to modify a registry file.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to change your C User Name, you can do so at any time. If you ever get tired of the name you selected or if you want to make a change for one of the reasons listed above, you can log into your computer and change your C User Name. Once you have changed your C User Name, you’ll want to make sure you change the name on all of your online accounts, such as email, social media, online banking, etc. Doing this will help you avoid any issues with the programs saved to your old account.
