How To Turn Off Headphone Safety On Your iPhone

When you use headphones on the iPhone, you must keep the volume safe for your own ears. You don’t want to damage your hearing with loud music and there are other people who may find it annoying. You can still enjoy listening to music or podcasts with headphones on your iPhone while keeping it safe and private. There are some volumes that are too loud, such as alarms, ringtones, and alerts — and we need to know when they happen. In that case, we need to disable the Headphone Safety feature on our iPhone so that we can hear these sounds at an unsafe level. Let’s take a look at how we can do this right now.

How To Turn Off Headphone Safety On Your iPhone

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down to the Sounds & Haptics section and tap it.
  3. Tap the toggle switch next to Headphone Safety so that it turns gray and disable it.
  4. You can now use your iPhone with headphones without worrying about damaging your hearing or annoying others around you with loud sounds from your iPhone.

How Does Headphone Safety Work in iOS?

  1. When you use headphones with the iPhone, it sends a lower volume to the headphones. This is so that you don’t get hurt by listening to loud music or podcasts.
  2. Headphone Safety is only enabled when you use headphones with your iPhone. If you plug in your wired earphones or Bluetooth earbuds and start playing music, Headphone Safety will be disabled automatically on your iPhone so that you can listen to music at a louder volume.
  3. When you unplug the headphones from the iPhone, Headphone Safety will be enabled again automatically on your iPhone for safe listening of music and podcasts on your iPhone.
  4. There’s no way to disable Headphone Safety completely on your iPhone if you want to use it with wired earphones or Bluetooth earbuds for loud music and podcasts because there are some sounds that need to be loud enough for us to hear them, such as alarms and alerts from apps like Calendar and Messages.
  5. Headphone Safety is a useful feature on the iPhone because it makes us aware of sounds that we need to hear, such as alarms and alerts on our iPhone. Without this feature, we may not be able to hear them at all because they are so quiet when we use headphones on our iPhones.
  6. If you really want to disable Headphone Safety completely on your iPhone, you can do so by going to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety and switching off the toggle switch for this feature.
  7. You can also disable Headphone Safety for specific apps by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing Aids > and then turn off the toggle switch for each app that you want to be able to play sound at an unsafe level through your headphones when music or podcasts are playing in these apps.

Headphone Safety is useful in stopping us from damaging our hearing with loud sounds from our iPhone but it’s not very convenient if we want to listen to music or podcasts with headphones plugged into our iPhone at high volumes because of some loud sounds like alarms and alerts that need to be loud enough so that we can hear them properly with headphones plugged into the 3.5mm jack of the iPhone.

When You Should Disable Headphone Safety On Your iPhone

  1. If you listen to music or podcasts on your iPhone at high volumes for more than an hour every day, it would be a good idea to turn off Headphone Safety so that you can hear them at louder volumes.
  2. If you use wired earphones or Bluetooth earbuds with your iPhone, it would be a good idea to turn off Headphone Safety so that you can listen to music or podcasts at higher volumes through these earphones earbuds.
  3. You may want to turn off Headphone Safety on your iPhone if you are having difficulty hearing sounds like alarms and alerts from apps like Calendar and Messages because of the built-in safety feature when you plug in headphones into the 3.5mm jack of your iPhone.
  4. You may want to disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone if you are not using headphones regularly for listening to music or podcasts on the device but just occasionally for charging purposes because this feature has been designed for people who use headphones regularly for listening to music and podcasts on their iPhones.
  5. You may not want to disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone if you are one of those people who listen to music or podcasts at very high volumes for more than an hour every day and it would be a good idea to keep this feature enabled so that you can prevent hearing damage in the long run.

How To Temporarily Disable Headphone Safety On Your iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety and turn off the toggle switch for this feature.
  2. You may want to disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone temporarily if you are listening to music at high volumes with headphones plugged into your iPhone and you want to be alerted by sounds like alarms and notifications from apps like Calendar and Messages at a lower volume or even silence.
  3. You may want to temporarily disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone if you are trying to listen to music or podcasts at low volumes during the night because of the loud sounds that can potentially wake up other people living with you in your home.
  4. If you want to temporarily turn off Headphone Safety on your iPhone, it’s best not do so while charging the device because it can cause damage to the headphones when they get too hot while charging and playing music at high volumes through them for longer durations of time.
  5. If you really want to disable Headphone Safety completely on your iPhone, you can do so by going to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety and switching off the toggle switch for this feature.
  6. You can also disable Headphone Safety for specific apps by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing Aids > and then turn off the toggle switch for each app that you want to be able to play sound at an unsafe level through your headphones when music or podcasts are playing in these apps.

Conclusion

You may have noticed that your iPhone’s maximum volume is lower when you plug in headphones. This is to prevent hearing damage, and it’s called Headphone Safety. This feature will lower the maximum volume of your device when you plug in headphones and lower it, even more, when your iPhone is in “Silent” mode. You can still lower the volume even more with the hardware buttons on the side of your iPhone, but the maximum volume will still be lower than normal. At times you may want to disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone, such as when you’re wearing your headphones and want to hear an incoming phone call or alarm at an unsafe volume. You may also want to disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone if you want to use the volume buttons to lower the volume even further. If you have any of these situations, then you’ll need to disable Headphone Safety on your iPhone.
