Keeping your home connection is a must-have in today’s digital age. Whether you need to keep tabs on your kids from a different room or want to stay connected to the internet without draining your phone, having multiple ways to access Wi-Fi is important. Connecting a landline phone to your WiFi router can improve connectivity by allowing you and visitors access through one device. In this blog post, we’ll explain how connecting your landline phone to the same network as your WiFi router can have many benefits for you and anyone who visits your home regularly. You’ll also learn about the setup process for each device so that you can choose which is best for you. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about connecting a landline phone with a WiFi router!
How To Connect A Landline Phone To A Wifi Router
- First, you’ll need to set up your router and phone. Your router should have a built-in modem and WiFi access point, which will allow you to connect to the internet. Your phone should be able to connect to the internet through a wireless router or through a data plan. If you’re not sure if your phone can connect using a wireless router, check with your wireless provider or look online for information about connecting your phone to the internet.
- If you want to connect your landline phone to a wireless router, then you’ll need a wireless router and a wireless modem that can connect to your landline phone. If you want to connect both your phone and your computer, then you’ll need a wireless modem combined with a router.
- Once you have all the hardware needed and decide which type of connection between the router and modem is best for you and your family, connect all of the hardware together with an Ethernet cable.
- Conect the Ethernet cable from your router or modem to one of the LAN ports on the back of your computer or use an existing LAN port on your computer if there is one there already. If you don’t have an Ethernet port or don’t want to use it, then simply use another device that will allow for WiFi internet access such as a cell phone or tablet device that also has data plan access.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable from your modem or router to an electrical outlet in another room in your home where you want internet access for visitors who can’t get through WiFi in their room. Once everything is connected, turn on each device (modem/router/phone) and wait for each device to finish installing its respective software before trying again at Step 5 if their software isn’t installed correctly yet. If everything went well during setup, then open up each app on both devices so that you can get to the main menu and then choose “Connect” to connect them.
- When you see the word “Connected” on your phone, then you’re done! If not, then follow the instructions that came with your router/modem to troubleshoot.
- Now that you have a landline phone connected to a wireless router, you can now make and receive calls through WiFi just like your smartphone or another device that has data plan access is able to do!
Why You Should Connect Your Landline Phone To Wifi
- Many of us use our mobile phones and tablets for everything nowadays. We use them to check email, do shopping, pay bills, take photos, listen to music and watch videos.
- Since most of us also want to keep our landlines as well for phone calls and other reasons, we often end up using the same WiFi network that we use when we’re on our smartphones or tablet devices which means that we can’t make or receive calls through WiFi all the time because there is always a possibility that someone else is using the same network as you!
- Connecting your landline phone to a wireless router allows you to connect your landline phone to a different WiFi network than your smartphone or tablet device so that you can use it for making and receiving calls through WiFi whenever you need it!
- You can still use your smartphone or tablet device for making and receiving calls through WiFi whenever you want to so that your landline phone isn’t always in use!
- If you only have a landline phone, then connecting it to a wireless router is the only way you can use it for making and receiving calls through WiFi if you don’t have an Ethernet cable. If you don’t have an Ethernet port, then simply connect one end of an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to another electrical outlet that is already in another room where there is already a landline phone connected to an electrical outlet. Then turn on each device (modem/router/phone) and wait for each device to finish installing its respective software before trying again at Step 5 if their software isn’t installed correctly yet. If everything went well during setup, then open up each app on both devices so that you can get to the main menu and then choose “Connect” to connect them.
How To Use A Landline As Wifi Guest Network
- Connect your wireless router to an electrical outlet in a room where you don’t need or want to use your landline phone for making and receiving calls.
- If you have a modem/router, then turn it on and wait for it to finish installing its respective software before continuing with Step 3.
- Go to the main menu on your wireless router and choose “Guest Network” under the “Basic Settings” section in the top right corner of the screen on your router’s dashboard. Make sure that you choose “Enable Guest Networking” first before going to the next step!
- Now select a WiFi network name that is different from any other WiFi network names that are already in use by other devices like other smartphones or tablets, laptops, etc so that only your landline phone can connect to this new guest network when it is turned on! For example, if there are already five WiFi networks named after their owners (like FamilyNet, HomeNet, WorkNet, etc.) then I would suggest selecting a name like “GuestNet” or something similar instead so that only your landline phone will be able to connect through this guest network when it is enabled! If there are already more than five WiFi networks with names like FamilyNet, HomeNet, WorkNet, and so on then simply select one of these available networks as the best choice from among those available ones! You can always rename the network later on.
- Go to the main menu of your landline phone and choose “Access Point” under the “Network” section in the top right corner of the screen on your landline phone’s dashboard. Make sure that you choose “Enable Guest Networking” first before going to the next step!

Wrapping up
Connecting a landline phone to your WiFi router can be helpful if you have a large home or want to keep tabs on your kids from different rooms in your home. You can also use your landline phone to create a guest network or as an extender to extend your WiFi network to more areas. If your WiFi signal isn’t strong enough to reach all corners of your home, you can also plug a wireless speaker into your WiFi router and set it up to act as an extender. No matter which device you choose to connect to your WiFi router, you’ll be able to use your home internet connection on multiple devices at once and have better WiFi coverage throughout your home.
